A strong and hardy native shrub with flowing ‘Cascades’ of drooping red growth, changing through shades of pink to green as the new growth ages. Spring flowers are 8-10cm pink pom-pom clusters with gold tips forming on the ends of handing branches, attracting nectar seeking birds and bees. Edible pink fruit in early summer following flowering.
Category / uses: great for hedges, as a feature shrub, or for larger tubs as a weeping specimen.
Position / planting / care: grow in warm, sunny to partly shaded position in moist, well drained soil. Cultivate soil before planting. Dig hole twice the width of the container. Remove plant from container and place into the hole so the soil level is the same size as the surrounding ground. Fill hole firmly and water in well even if the soil is moist. Water after planting until established. Clip regularly if hedge or shaping is required. Mulch well and regular application of native slow releases fertiliser.
