Bird of Paradise, White Giant Strelitzia nicolai ‘Giant White’

An evergreen, clump forming, palm-like perennial with long, lance-shaped foliage. The striking, white and dark blue flowers, birdlike in shape, occur mainly in summer /autumn. Hardy and reasonably drought tolerant.
Category / Uses: Feature plant – a colourful, showy addition to sunny sheltered sites in the garden. Both flowers and leaves can be used in flower arrangements.
Position / Planting : Thrives in moist. well drained soil in a warm position protected from frost.Cultivate soil before planting. Dig hole twice the width of the container. Remove plant from container and place into the hole so the soil level is the same as the surrounding ground. Fill hole firmly and water in well even if the soil is moist.
Care: Remove damaged or spent leaves regularly and protect from direct sunlight in summer. Reduce watering in cooler months but water well in summer.
